We’re excited to share that our programs offer specialized courses designed to align with your child’s interests and meet important learning goals while providing flexibility! With Choice School programs, families have the option to request enrollment in schools beyond their zoned school.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Magnet schools
- Career-focused programs
- Other unique academic offerings
Applying for the Choice School process is entirely optional and depends on availability. Applications are typically accepted during our Controlled Open Enrollment period, which normally runs from January through early March. Each year, the district publishes important dates, including when to apply and when you’ll hear back, so keep an eye out for those! We encourage families to apply early and stay on top of deadlines. We can't wait to help your child find the perfect fit!
Student Choice Programs (Themed)
Learn more about our Choice programs
Leon County Schools continues to strive to offer flexibility and variety in parental choice by providing specialized non-Magnet Programs that give parents and students exceptional additional options in their educational decisions. Choice Programs offer a broad variety of specialty programs from grades K – 12 at a variety of schools throughout the district.
Choice programs differ from Magnet programs in that they are primarily designed for students who reside within the school’s boundary. These students are given priority placement. After boundary students are placed, any remaining seats are offered to out-of-boundary students through the online Choice application process.
Choice programs are thematic, curriculum-based offerings available at all grade levels and conducted during regular school hours. Please note that transportation is typically not provided for Choice programs, so parents may need to arrange transportation for their student(s) if a school of Choice is approved by the appropriate Region. After-school programs are not included in the Choice application options.
